ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS At Baptism, you as parents, accepted the responsibility of training your children in the practice of their Faith. The community in return promises to assist you in this duty as Christian parents. Because of busy schedules and diverse needs St. Colette’s offers two religious education programs for children in grades 1 through 6 that families may participate in. They are:SUMMER CATECHETICAL ALTERNATIVE PROGRAM (SCAP) This program is for children in grades 1-6 only. It is offered in the morning and evening. The children are registered for the A.M. session (9:00 am to 12 noon) or the P.M. session (5:30-8:30 pm). The children attend classes for two weeks Monday through Thursday. This program’s format incorporates a variety of learning techniques. It is designed to reinforce the child’s learning experience through art, music, audio-visual and traditional classroom experiences. The text for this program is Church. The curriculum of Church is completely compatible with the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Immediate Sacramental Preparation will take place during the school year. If your child wishes to celebrate First Eucharist and/or First Reconciliation, you will register for the Immediate Sacrament Preparation at the parish-wide August registration. J UNIOR HIGH SUMMER DAY CAMP Teens of St. Colette’s parish who will be enrolled in 7th and 8th grade in the Fall are invited to participate in a one to two day Summer Day Camp offered August 10th & 11th, 2006.This camp will offer our junior high teens an opportunity to meet with new and old friends in a Christian environment. St. Colette will be our home base but we will be traveling to various activities. The cost will be determined by the activities for the day. Invitations, including a registration form, will be sent to junior high students who are presently enrolled in the parish. Campers may invite friends to participate who will be attending 7th or 8th grade in the Fall. TRADITIONAL YEAR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION (TYRE) Four Year Olds and Kindergarten T his age group meets on Sunday morning during the 9:30 am Mass. The text is entitled Discovering God's Love. Four and five year olds possess a natural sense of wonder about their surroundings. Due to their curiosity, they eagerly discover God’s world through their senses of touch, sight, hearing, taste and smell. The goal is to help them appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of all God’s Creation especially themselves.Grades One through Six These grades meet during the week on Monday—5:15 to 6:15 pm or Tuesday—6-7:00 pm. The text is entitled We Believe. The basic teachings of the Catholic Church are presented to the children each year in an age appropriate format. Students will study Trinity, Sacraments, church, Morality, Scripture, and Prayer. Each grade will focus on a particular aspect of the faith life of the church. The curriculum of We Believe is completely compatible with the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Grades Seven and Eight The seventh and eighth grade students will meet twice a month or an hour and 30 min. The students register to attend the first and second Wednesday or Thursday of the month. Seventh graders will study during the year three topics and eighth graders two topics. These six session mini-courses will be on themes of high interest to young adolescents. Eighth graders will also be involved in creating with one of their class groupings a Christian service project that they will, with adult help, complete. Eighth graders will also have two sessions during the year that will introduce the sacraments of initiation - specifically Confirmation. An important element of the program is to allow social time at the beginning of each session. All junior high participants therefore are invited for the first fifteen minutes of each evening to gather in the Youth Center room. Liturgy of the Word This program is offered to children from kindergarten through grade six during the Saturday 4 pm and Sunday 9:30 and 11 am Masses. It is an opportunity for children to have the Sunday scriptures explained at their level of understanding. This program runs through mid-May and begins again the week after Labor Day in September.
